Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa

Many people believe that Kupe was the first explorer to discover Aotearoa, New Zealand in about 1300. He navigated his way by waka to Aotearoa from Hawaiki using traditional Polynesian navigation techniques - just like Nainoa Thompson (from Activity 1) did much later on. Legend says that he followed a great octopus all the way to Aotearoa/New Zealand and finally destroyed it in Cook Strait (the water between the North and South Islands).

Activity 1: Setting Sail [4 points]

People from Pacific nations have always been expert explorers and navigators. In the past, they used the stars, sun and ocean swells to find their way (navigate) around the Pacific Ocean. Master navigator, Nainoa Thompson, has used the ancient Polynesian wayfinding skills to navigate around the world. In 2013, Nainoa led a crew across the Pacific Ocean on two large canoes (Hokule’a and Hikianalia). The crew stopped off in Aotearoa, New Zealand in 2015 on their journey and visited the Manaiakalani Schools in Auckland.

Here is a short video about Polynesian navigation. It describes the different ways ancient Polynesian navigators used the natural world to find their way around vast oceans. Incredible!

I think that it would be difficult to be ‘at sea’ for weeks at a time. I would miss my family but I would also enjoy the adventure. Let’s imagine that you were invited to join Nainoa for three weeks at sea. As part of the journey, you have to pack your own food.

On your blog, post your list of 10 food items you would take on an ocean voyage and the reasons why you chose these items.

1.Water-It will help me to survive.

2.Chips-Just unchaste if I get hungry

3. Fruit-Just when I wanna eat something healthy.

4.Meat-Is when I can cook meat for dinner.

5. Bread-Is you can eat it for breakfast.

6. Noodles-Is when I like to eat it as for a snack.

7.Hot chocolate-Just when it get cold I might need something to keep me warm.

8.Rice-When I have no food to eat I can just eat rice.

9.Ice-cream-When I wanna eat ice-cream for desert.

10. Sushi - Because it is healthy.

My class and I was making cushion with Miss Coakley I was so excited to make a cushion for the first time.When we start making our cushion we start with the drawing like 4 things  what we like about,what our hobbies,what our favourite food,and like other things but we only get to pick 4 so I pick what my favourite food,my name,and my country flag so that was my 4 choosing  that I put on my cushion.When I was done I went over to Miss Coakely to show my drawing so I can put on my cushion.When I went to her to show my work until she said yes but when she said yes i get to draw my 4 things that i pick so I draw the staff on my cushion.When i am done drawing i get to paint and colouring it in so I take my time until i am done,when I am done I took my cushion to Miss coakley so she can sew my cushion when she was done she give my cushion and I was so happy when it was done.

Life On Mars

One day we went in a blue plant that called Mars we landed in a  place that only as sand and no water they were fixing the plant before everyone arrived.But that plant  stay there ever since 97 days so that means that has no food and no water that any body can not eat any other food also on that plant that as no air that nobody can breathe which people can die from that so they were making plant so people can come and stay there so they were 8 people that they were helping the plant It may take weeks to be done.

Manaiakalani Movie

Early morning my whole school went to the Manaiakalani festival movie.But the first thing that we did was we have to wait for our school bell rang to ready to go on the bus because the bus driver was waiting for us if we are ready to go.When we were ready our class went with Rm 3 and the others went on the other bus,when we got there at sylvia sark when we hop off we all line up at our class,when we got ready half of the class cross the road with teachers so we stop and wait for the others class can come so we can go all together as one whole group.When we went inside the movie there was lots of schools was there and also lots of kids,and teachers.When the movie start everything was dark and lights turn off which mean it was ready to start our Manaiakalani festival movie everybody was so quiet and that was our movie start.After a while when I saw my part of the movie I got very nervous when other schools saw my part and little bit of funny because this boy behind me was making funny face and that kind of bit embarrassing tho but was still funny.When our manaiakalani movie was done every school left and ready to go back to school,so our school went on that same bus and go with the same class that we go on before.When we got back at school i was little bit of tied how we went on the manaiakalani movie,and that was my best day ever with my whole school.

Evil elf and the zoo

Once upon a time there was an evil elf went and steal animals at the zoo.But when every animal was gone every elf’s came and safe the animals by the evil elf before he kill them.So all of the  elves try to stop the evil one by killing the animals.So some elves went and escape the animals of the cage so they can be free.So when they escape the animals they put them in the zoo,and lock the zoo so the evil elf does not come in.!!!!

what I did is Character and setting description and what i wrote is the Evil elf and the Zoo.
